Alexandria Commission for the Art’s 40th Anniversary Exhibition

Smith was invited to curate a selection for an exhibition commemorating the 40th anniversary of the City of Alexandria’s Commission for the Arts, an initiative honoring four decades of civic investment in public art and cultural enrichment. Organized by the City of Alexandria, the exhibition extended to each serving commissioner the opportunity to identify a local artist for presentation in a four-month installation within the lobby of the Hilton Alexandria Mark Center Hotel.
In her role as commissioner, Smith curated a presentation of work by fine artist Lauren Brumbach, featuring Thirty Pumpkins. The installation celebrated the Commission’s ongoing commitment to supporting regional artistic practice and expanding access to contemporary art within civic and hospitality spaces, reinforcing the intersection of community engagement and public cultural stewardship.
